Job Title: Simulation Engineer
Location: St. Louis, MO; Remote
Company: Onyx 360
Job Type: Full-Time
Travel: As required up to 20%
About the Role
At Onyx 360, we are reimagining how industry designs, tests, and runs the systems that power the world — through simulation that connects imagination with reality. Our work bridges the digital and physical, turning engineering theory into real-world performance and solving critical challenges within the process industries.
We’re seeking a Simulation Engineer who’s passionate about solving complex industrial challenges through advanced simulation and automation. In this role, you’ll develop and deploy dynamic process models, integrate them with control systems, and collaborate closely with senior engineers to transform how plants operate and decisions get made.
You’ll work across multiple industries and technologies — bringing simulation to life from concept to commissioning — while continuously growing your technical depth and influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement dynamic process simulations.
- Analyze project inputs such as PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, and equipment data sheets.
- Integrate simulation software with control systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to meet project goals and timelines.
- Participate in customer-facing activities including Acceptance Tests and demos.
- Drive innovation by identifying ways to improve system performance and efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement of simulation tools, workflows and methodologies.
Who You Are
- You are an engineer who sees systems – not silos. You think in models, cause-and-effect, and you love solving problems that span disciplines.
- You are motivated by impact: designing solutions that make operations safer, smarter, and more connected.
- You balance precision and creativity — diving deep into the details while staying curious about the bigger picture.
- You make learning a priority – you aren’t afraid to ask questions, make and learn from mistakes, and grow fast.
- You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where ideas form quickly from concept to reality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or similar).
- Experience with process simulation and/or control systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with dynamic process simulation software.
- Familiarity with industrial processes typically found in Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, Life Sciences, Mining, etc.
- Experience with Emerson, Rockwell, Honeywell, or other control systems.
- Experience in consulting or project-based engineering environments.
- Eagerness to learn new tools, methods, and technologies.
- Experience with virtualization, networking, and hosting.
- Knowledge of regulatory control, advanced process control, and state-based control.
